Song Of The Day: Short Sighted People In Power By My Politic

Kaston Guffey is a songwriter and singer in the band My Politic, based out of Nashville, in the U.S.. For a protest musician such as Guffey racial injustice in his country, climate change issues and the “unbelievable lies and norm busting of this white house” have affected him greatly.

Guffey writes to us via email: “We have spent the better part of our quarantine writing and recording “Short-Sighted People In Power”.  I wanted to create an “historical snapshot” of what is happening here in America.”

“I wanted to write something honest, something true.”

This song is from an album of the same title and according to Guffey the album is “meant to be heard as one piece, each song existing in context with the others…”.

Song Of The Day: Promises By Joss Jaffe Ft. Mykel Rose

Based in California, Joss Jaffe is a musician that fuses elements of his long study of Indian classical music with reggae rhythms and a passion for conscious living.

The song itself almost did not make it into the world since the hard disk containing the master was nearly destroyed in a fire. Fortunately this catchy music survived and now it can be shared around the world. In the lyrics Joss examines the political deception that we the people have to constantly face from “corrupt and petty strongmen” but the song also contains a glimpse of hope that this time will soon come to an end:

“Leaders of the world, get them out. Old time pharaoh, your time has run out. King and tyrant your reign has come to an end. Your false promise can’t ever touch us again.”

With the help of Grammy award winning Jamaican reggae singer Mykal Rose, the song is as hard hitting as it is uplifting – the perfect balance between the political message and the banging reggae beat.

The beautiful cover art is created by Drew Brophy who is known for his work for the Sublime album covers.

Video Of The Day: 2020 Riots: How Many Times

Only after the first week of protests in the US that were sparked by the murder of George Floyd, Trey Songz released a song about the matter. In it he wonders how much more suffering his brothers and sisters must face before real change happens.

As the struggle only continues for black people in the US Trey has now released the video for the song which can be viewed below.

“Tell me how can you be quiet?
You know the language of the unheard, is a riot
All we ever see from you is violence (true)
You know you ain’t no better if you silent
You talking ’bout the city on fire (oh, oh)
Where your rage when my people die?
We ain’t slaves, let my people fly (oh, yeah)
Now it’s time, watch my people rise”

From 2020 Riots: How Many Times by Trey Songz
