All proceeds from the compilation, organized by Mark Bradley of Unblind and Disappear, will go directly to Women for Afghan Womenย and MIAAN.

“One major thing I was trying to accomplish, was to get representation from bands with diverse lineups and backgrounds (not just straight white males). A lot of time and effort went into hand selecting bands that I felt would best represent the overall message of this compilation. I think we managed to do so, and also achieved a pretty eclectic mix of bands.โ€

The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is one of the worst in modern history. After decades of war and natural disasters, more than 20 million people are facing starvation, according to the United Nations. Women and children are especially vulnerable, so even if it is something small then still consider hitting up Another City Records and grab your copy. Many small things add up to something bigger.

Musician And Animal Activist, Inanna, Releases A Single Protesting Factory Farming

Music, environmental protection, animal rights and, belly dancing. These are some of the things Inanna brings to the world on a daily basis. Now the singer and activist has released a music video to ‘The Machine’, off of her recently released album, ‘Acrotopia‘.

The mostly black and white video shows Inanna weaving through factory machines, and dubious-looking workers, in a blood-red colored dress, all the while conveying a message about the rights of animals.

We can all have different opinions about eating other animals but there are sensible, ethical ways of doing things and then there is factory farming. The latter is nothing but torture and horror that even causes trauma to the workers/murderers not to mention the environmental effects such as deforestation, pollution, and the decline of smaller farms and rural communities.

โ€œI firmly believe that all forms of art have an incredible capacity to drive change and create awareness, even about difficult issues such as animal exploitation. This video, inspired by some of my favorite movies of the silent era, wants to be an allegorical representation of the treatment of animals in factory farms and forests burnt by human activity. It is a dark video for a dark and emotional song, but it also includes a message of hope and a colorful fragment where we can catch a glimpse of a possible future where humans and animals live and thrive together. Both song and video want to witness what happens, but they also want to celebrate life and individuality of all Earthlingsโ€

Homeboy Sandman Goes Off On New Single ‘No Beef’

On the contrary to the title of the song, Homeboy Sandman does have a beef. This time it is directed, kindly and cleverly, against those who insist on continuing to eat tortured meat and those who apathetically and stubbornly turn a blind eye to the horrors that hide underneath their plates.

The song, which is produced by Sandman’s long-time collaborator Aesop Rock, is off of his new EP, Anjelitu, which drops very, very hard beats and comic rhymes about the strange society we live in.

Sandman explains in the song how every aspect of his life, physical and mental, has improved after turning to plant-based food, and humorously he points out certain hypocrisy in meat lovers’ arguments: “Don’t argue with me about protein/It makes me think you can’t read/This is not 12 B.C/There is B12 in seaweed”.

Sandman continues:

“It’s been said that everyone’d be vegan if slaughterhouses were made of glass
But I’m afraid the reason for it is even more sordid: Slaughterhouses are made of cash”

Homeboy Sandman’s Angelitu EP is out now on Music Mello Group.
